Tie An Autoblock
Howdy Stranger
Detailed Description
The autoblock is a nice friction hitch because it is easy to tie with one hand. It is fast and simple.  Many climbing guides will carry a small loop of cord pre cut and tied to a length that works well to use on the ropes they guide with.

It is most often used to back up rappels, to back up belays, for quick 3 to 1 pulley systems, etc.

Increasing the number of wraps increases the friction.  The number of wraps needed will depend a lot of if you are tying around one rope or two ropes, the diameter (thickness) of the rope being tied around, and the diameter of the cord being tied.
