The munter hitch is a great knot to use for belay, it is especially handy when you need to belay directly off of anchors and control the belay from a distance, typically in a top-managed belay or institutional rappel situation. The munter hitch is also great to know in case you ever find yourself without a belay device, if you dropped or otherwise misplaced such a device.
