Detailed Description
If you are using a munter hitch and want to secure the brake side you need to know the munter mule.
One of the primary uses of a munter mule is to set a releaseable and controllable fixed line. Such a line is often used by climbing guides for an institutional rappel setup.
Note that while some people prefer to finish the slip knot portion of the mule by following it with a half-hitch that most climbing guides prefer to finish the knot with an overhand that captures the load strand.
While generally considered safe alone some more cautious climbers will further secure the loop of the overhand by clipping it with a carabiner to the load strand.
